JUST REMEMBER TO ALWAYS THINK TWICE

Shirt: Gap, Dress: Wilfred, Shoes: Ralph Lauren, Rings: H&M

Bought this shirt in both colors, pale pink and olive green. Figure they'll be great layering pieces for summer, dress up or dress down, and cozy enough even to sleep in. On the weekend I wore one over a simple dress, paired with wooden heels I finally got that I have been lusting over forever. Makes a different kind of statement depending on which color shirt is layered I think. Although no doubt I will eventually wear them both at the same time at some point, 'cause that's how I roll. A photo further down of current jewelry I'm into: some bought, one made by me, and one made by a student - can you guess which one?

DREAM BENEATH THE DESERT SKY

So many friends on their way to Coachella, do I ever wish I was there too. I'll be bound for Sasquatch soon enough, but I am pretty jealous of warm California weather. I made these earrings in a sort of wishful-thinking/spiteful-craftmaking mood. I changed my idea so many times that it took me two hours to make just one. Now I just have to finish the other.

I'M BOUND TO FALL, BOUND TO FALL FOR YOU

Shirt & Jeans: Gap

Pastel art project in grade four today. I put on Brazil by deadmau5 during class which totally calmed them down. But then I realized that some students were taking forever with their projects, so I put on Tighten Up by The Black Keys and soon I had students turning in completed projects left right and center. Amazing the effects of music on people. And then (best part), throughout the day, I would catch a kid humming the guitar riff from that song. Awesome.

This trend of 'color blocking' is so in right now, so I tried 'fabric blocking' instead. I only wish I had thought to wear my jean jacket as well with my jean shirt and jeans today. How cool would that have been.

WE'LL PUNCH A HOLE RIGHT THROUGH THE NIGHT

My 100th blog post! Only fitting that it should be something exciting. My brother dj'ed in Nanaimo (it was his birthday!) and a bunch of us tagged along, and although I cannot promise the most fashionable photos,
we sure had fun.

WE'RE HALF AWAKE IN A FAKE EMPIRE

Attended the UBC BlockParty tonight. Was pretty glad I wore my fur coat (seen enough of it yet?) since it was freezing out, despite the sunshine. Was also pretty glad I was "backstage" in the VIP area where the ground was not trampled into one huge mud pit. And was pretty excited to drive to home to bed after my sushi dinner at The Eatery. How old am I when get excited over a warm coat, clean shoes, a decent meal and an early bedtime? Hmm... older? Yes, but wiser.

BABY IT'S A WILD WORLD

Dress: French Connection

A great friend of mine just got back from her trip to Uganda, and today she visited my grade three class to tell them all about it. She worked in a hospital while she was there, and had many stories and pictures to show them. My grade threes know this friend of mine: she did a presentation for them before she left for her trip and the class and I stayed in correspondence with her during her 5-month stay. It was so much fun to have her in my class, and my students just adored her. In art, we sketched African animals in pastels, so naturally I dressed as animal-like as I could. Of course my leopard fur was in, but so was this little dress, absolutely perfect for the occasion.

BURIED UNDERNEATH YOUR PRETTY CLOTHES

Although I have my grade 1, 3, and 4 classes, I am still a substitute teacher on Mondays. Before going into every new class I sub for, there is always a split second of panic: what kind of students will they be? As a sub you get to experience some incredibly diverse and challenging classes. Today I worked at a very small school that only has six classes, from Kindergarten to grade 7. The little grade twos I taught were absolutely adorable, so friendly and helpful, pretty much the best scenario for a sub on a Monday. So many other bloggers - Kelsey and Alicia in mind - have been wearing leopard print I see, so I couldn't help but jump on the band wagon and bust out my fur coat (not like I need an excuse to wear animal print). One grade two told me, "I like your coat Miss Deitcher, it's so pretty. But your face is prettier." Sweethearts in this class I tell ya.

Anyone else have a problem leaving the Club Monaco sale section empty handed? My newest find - a silk maxi skirt in navy, mega on sale. I wasn't even out shopping for me, actually supposed to be shopping for my brother's birthday present.. But sometimes the things you are looking for appear when you are not looking. Happy weekend everyone!
